Role brief

aimlroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate employee-created AI tools and recommend suitable designs, models and ways to connect them
  • Check data handling, permissions and outside-provider exposure for security and governance risks
  • Link AI tools with internal systems, and improve existing tools so they are secure, maintainable and monitored
  • Maintain the AI asset register against ISO 27001 controls and establish vendor and data-agreement reviews
  • Help colleagues solve technical problems, document tools for handover, and support Legal with policies and incident response

What you bring

  • You have built multi-agent bots or AI applications with LLM APIs, automation platforms or machine-learning frameworks
  • You understand software architecture, API design and patterns for connecting enterprise systems
  • You can assess AI-related security concerns such as privacy, prompt injection and access controls
  • You hold a relevant bachelor's degree or bring at least five years of equivalent experience

Who this fits

This role suits a hands-on AI builder who can guide colleagues with less technical experience. It is hybrid and based in Melbourne or Sydney, with occasional work at unusual hours and short-notice travel within Australia. Police and driving history checks are required.

From the employer

About Us

Acusensus pioneers intelligent road safety enforcement solutions that can be rapidly deployed to address road safety challenges. Our mission is changing behaviours, saving lives. Founded in 2018, we combine advanced AI and hardware technology in fixed-location, trailer-based and vehicle-based enforcement solutions. They are used by governments across Australia, the US, the UK and New Zealand to tackle dangerous driver behaviour. We're a global team with some of the best (and smartest) people on the planet, and we solve hard problems together.

The Opportunity

AI adoption is strong at Acusensus, and the team is experimenting with building tools, automations and agents. As our AI Architect, you'll make sure those solutions are secure, connected, documented and built to last. You'll be the bridge between what the business needs and what good engineering looks like.

What you'll do:

  • Review AI tools, automations and agents built by employees, and advise on architecture, model and tool selection, and integration patterns
  • Assess solutions for security and data governance risk, including data handling, access controls and third-party exposure
  • Connect AI solutions to internal systems and data sources, working with the CTO's team to avoid shadow-IT silos
  • Troubleshoot hands-on when colleagues get stuck, and lift existing internal tools to enterprise standard (secure, scalable, maintainable and monitored)
  • Ensure employee-built tools are documented and transferable so they keep running when people change roles
  • Own and maintain the central register of AI tools and agents, mapped to ISO 27001 controls
  • Run a repeatable process for assessing AI vendors and data processing agreements, developed jointly with General Counsel
  • Provide technical risk input to Legal's AI policies, support incident response, and drive remediation plans when a tool falls short of the standard

Requirements

About You

You're a technically rigorous AI builder who loves making complex things simple for others, and who knows when good enough is good enough.

You'll bring:

  • Hands-on experience building multi-agent bots or AI solutions using LLM APIs, automation platforms (such as n8n, Make or Power Automate) or ML frameworks is essential.
  • A solid grounding in software architecture, API design and enterprise integration patterns
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity as it applies to AI, including data privacy, prompt injection and access controls
  • Experience reviewing and guiding work from non-technical or less experienced colleagues
  • Familiarity with AWS, Azure or GCP and their AI/ML services
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field, or at least 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and responsible AI principles is highly regarded.
  • Exposure to OWASP LLM Top 10, MITRE ATLAS or NIST AI RMF is highly regarded.

Good to know
This is a hybrid role based in Melbourne or Sydney. Because we operate globally, you may occasionally work early mornings, evenings or weekends, and travel nationally at short notice. The role requires police and driving history checks.

Benefits

Why join us?

✦ Lead the safe adoption of AI

You'll be the technical authority on how internal AI tools and agents are built, secured and run across the business. Solutions will be built right the first time, not retrofitted later.

✦ Architecture with real breadth

You'll work across LLM APIs, automation platforms, cloud AI services and enterprise integration. You'll shape standards, own the AI asset register and set up the vendor assessment process.

✦ Enable people, not just govern them

You'll partner with AI Champions in every business unit and help non-technical builders get unstuck. The aim is to protect the business without slowing down its pace of innovation.
