  • Set the technical direction for image-processing architecture and guide engineers while shaping cross-team design choices
  • Build fast C++ pipelines and services for large volumetric scans, working with machine-learning and visualization engineers
  • Ensure image-processing work connects cleanly with the broader platform

What you bring

  • At least seven years developing classical image-processing algorithms and incorporating them into commercial software
  • Practical work with CT, CTA, or other volumetric medical scans, including segmentation, registration, and DICOM familiarity
  • Strong modern C++ ability, sound software-design skills, and experience improving runtime, memory, file handling, or parallel execution

Who this fits

This principal-level role suits an experienced imaging engineer who can set technical direction and mentor others while building production systems. Greater Boston employees work in a hybrid arrangement, with office collaboration encouraged Mondays and Wednesdays; employees outside the area can work fully remotely and visit as needed.

From the employer

We are a rapidly growing, Boston-based medical technology company using AI to enable clinicians to make informed decisions on cardiovascular care - leading to better patient outcomes, improved quality of care, and reduced healthcare costs. Come work at Elucid and be part of delivering on our mission to prevent heart attacks and strokes!

Elucid is at the forefront of quantitative imaging, tissue characterization, and atherosclerotic plaque analysis, and we’re continuing to grow our engineering organization! As a Principal Imaging and AI Engineer, you'll design our classical image processing algorithms and own them all the way into production. You’ll set technical direction for our image processing architecture, mentor engineers, and influence design decisions across teams. You’ll build the high-performance C++ pipelines and services that process large volumetric imaging datasets, partnering with machine learning and visualization engineers to ensure your work fits seamlessly into our platform. Your work will put clinically meaningful insights into physicians’ hands, helping them to better understand and treat cardiovascular disease with their patients.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of experience developing classical image processing algorithms and integrating them into commercial software.
  • Hands-on experience with CT/CTA or other volumetric medical imaging data, including segmentation and registration techniques, and familiarity with standards such as DICOM.
  • Strong modern C++ skills and a solid foundation in software design principles and patterns (e.g., object-oriented design, template-based generic programming).
  • Experience optimizing software for performance, including algorithmic efficiency, memory usage, file I/O, and parallel execution, using tools and techniques such as multithreading and profiling
  • A track record of building maintainable production systems in collaborative, fast-paced engineering environments.
  • Enthusiasm for working at the intersection of image processing, machine learning, and scalable software systems.
  • CUDA or other GPU programming experience and familiarity with machine learning are a plus.
