What you'll do

What you bring

- Strong Python and backend skills, with hands-on work involving APIs, databases and system connections
- Experience with LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents or orchestration, and the ability to build complete prototypes

ATMRI at NTU is seeking a Research Engineer II to join the Digital ATCO Assistant project. The role focuses on developing intelligent assistants for air traffic management by integrating LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, AI agents, operational data, and user-facing applications.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and integrate AI-enabled applications for the Digital ATCO Assistant project.
- Build end-to-end systems that combine LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, AI agents, tool calling, workflow orchestration, and operational data sources.
- Integrate AI components with existing enterprise systems through APIs, databases, authentication mechanisms, and message-based services.
- Develop backend services, user interfaces, and system connectors for prototypes and pilot deployments.
- Implement evaluation, logging, monitoring, traceability, and feedback mechanisms for AI-assisted workflows.
- Work with domain experts and controllers to convert operational use cases into system requirements and test scenarios.
- Support system testing, demonstration, technical documentation, and deployment activities.
- Contribute to technical reports, project proposals, publications, and collaboration with academic, industry, and regulatory partners.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- At least one year of relevant experience in software engineering, systems integration, AI application development, or enterprise technology delivery.
- Strong experience with Python, backend development, APIs, databases, and system integration.
- Experience developing or integrating LLM applications, RAG systems, AI agents, or agent orchestration workflows.
- Ability to develop reliable end-to-end prototypes rather than standalone AI models.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience or interest in aviation, air traffic management, human-AI teaming, or safety-critical AI applications is an advantage.
