  • Set technical direction, uphold sound architecture and maintainability, and coach engineers across project teams
  • Contribute code to data, modeling and deployment workflows while assigning work effectively
  • Turn client business problems into technical plans and deliver outcomes they can measure
  • Raise standards across system design, modeling and MLOps by applying current machine learning practices

What you bring

  • Six to eight years working in machine learning, data science or a related discipline
  • Strong Python skills and practical knowledge of machine learning methods, deep learning and relevant frameworks
  • Experience building and launching LLM applications, including RAG, prompt design and retrieval workflows
  • A track record of technical leadership, project delivery and coaching engineering teams
  • Fluent English and experience deploying machine learning systems on cloud platforms

Who this fits

This suits a senior, hands-on technical leader who can balance coding, architectural decisions, client conversations and team development. The position is onsite in Barcelona, Spain. Fluent English is required; French is an advantage.

From the employer

Visium combines strategy, frontier AI, and deep regulated-industry expertise to build and deploy AI-native systems that reinvent how businesses operate - unlocking the value of AI at scale.

We're not a strategy firm that ships slide decks and walks away. Not a tech consultancy that builds what won't get adopted. Not a product company chasing problems it doesn't understand. We're all three at once: strategy, deep technical and integration expertise, and product, working as one. That combination is our flywheel. Consulting keeps us close to the hardest real-world problems. Products let us solve them at scale. Every engagement sharpens our products; every deployment makes the next engagement faster, deeper, and more certain.

We're obsessed with outcomes. While 95% of enterprise AI pilots never reach production, Visium is built to be the 5% delivering productised AI that compounds in value, not point solutions that deliver marginal gains. We are AI-native, not AI-adjacent. We don't bolt AI onto broken workflows; we redesign them with AI at the core.

Role

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will own the most technically complex and high-impact projects from conceptualization over architecture design to production deployment.

You will:

  • Set direction for a technical team, ensuring architectural excellence and long-term solution maintainability.
  • Lead and mentor junior and senior engineers, raising the technical bar across projects.
  • Stay hands-on with high quality code contributions to data processing, modeling and deployment pipelines while delegating effectively.
  • Partner with clients to translate complex business challenges into clear technical roadmaps and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Drive adoption of modern ML best practices and state-of-the-art methodology from system design and architecture over modelling to MLOps.

You are not only passionate about machine learning, but also about shaping how data-driven insights create value for our clients. You thrive in dynamic environments, balancing hands-on technical work with strategic decision-making and team leadership.

This role goes beyond building models: you will be responsible for technical strategy, quality standards and growing engineering talent, shaping the future of our ML delivery practice.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you bring a combination of expertise, experience, and skills including:

  • 6 - 8 years of experience in machine learning, data science, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Expertise in ML/DL libraries and frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI, Tableau, D3.js).
  • Deep learning experience (e.g., RNNs, CNNs) and strong knowledge of clustering, regression, and classification methods.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and deploying LLM-based applications, including RAG systems, with a strong understanding of prompt engineering, vector databases, and knowledge retrieval pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments, REST APIs, and microservices.
  • Experience with ML deployment, production pipelines, and scalable architectures on platforms such as AzureML, AWS and GCP.
  • Experience with Data and AI platforms (Databricks, Dataiku, Snowflake). Certifications are a plus.
  • Demonstrated technical and project leadership, with the ability to guide complex initiatives and deliver results.
  • Strong mentorship skills and experience managing or coaching teams to reach their full potential.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, capable of bridging technical and business perspectives.
  • Fluent in English, French is a plus.
